Continuing on with Bleacherreport news…

Gotta love Bleacherreport.  They have come out with the college football post signing day top twenty five (I kid you not)!  For better or worse, here it is: 1 Alabama (no surprise), 2 Oregon (yes!), 3 Stanford (again, yes!), 4 Texas A & M, 5 Georgia, 6 Ohio State, 7 Notre Dame, 8 Florida, 9 South Carolina (how about the ole ball coach!), 10 Louisville, 11 LSU (not quite as lofty as usual), 12 Clemson, 13 FSU, 14 Texas, 15 Oklahoma, 16 Oregon State, 17 Northwestern (becoming quite the national powerhouse?), 18 Boise State, 19 USC (in spite of Lane Kiffin and the NCAA sanctions?), 20 Wisconsin, 21 Nebraska, 22 Ole Miss (guess that happens when you sign the #1 recruit along with two others in the top twenty!),  23 TCU, 24 Michigan State and 25 Michigan.

I won’t bring it up again, just thought we would have some fun with it!

Georgia Tech 2013 recruiting class gets a “D” from bleacherreport

Georgia Tech’s 2013 recruiting class did not crack the top forty, it did not bring razzle dazzle and all kinds of ESPN coverage. Still, it should be a solid class that  CPJ has recruited to fill his needs for the “system” at the flats.  Bleacherreport has very kindly given it a “D”.  Gee, thanks for that.  Anyhow, two notables are OT Shamire DeVine and RB Donavan Wilson.  Georgia Tech has always done a very good job of taking two and three star recruits and coaching them up to 3.5 and better athletes.  Let’s hope the Jackets got what they will need to get it going next year and in the years to come.

Meanwhile, the other team in Georgia, the dawgs, well, they are once again ranked as a top ten recruiting class (they almost always are).

Howard to play tonight for Lakers

Word is that Dwight Howard will play tonight for the LA Lakers when they take on the Celtics in the Garden.  (8:00 pm EST)  The Lakers really need Howard to come through, as Kobe has worded it, “play with a sense of urgency”.  Pau Gasol is out for at least 4 to 6 weeks and the Lakers are on a bit of a roll, 3 -1 in their seven game road trip and making a huge push to get into the playoffs.  Tonight’s game will be both interesting and important!

This and that…let’s play catch up!

USA drops opener in  World Cup soccer (bad!).  NY Giants release RB Ahmad Bradshaw and the Philadelphia Eagles hold on to Michael Vick, for now.

With Gasol out, Kobe Bryant “urges” Dwight Howard to get back in there, the Lakers need him.

Final top ten college football recruiting classes: 1 Alabama, 2 Florida, 3 Ohio State, 4 Notre Dame, 5 Ole Miss (how about those Rebels), 6 Michigan, 7 LSU, 8 Texas A & M, 9 FSU and 10 UGA.

ABC hit drama Nashville was really good tonight…recap tomorrow!

Surviving “Paradise” day

Hey everyone!  Apologies as I have been off the grid somewhat today!  A lot of stuff going on with Pau Gasol and his injury, out for perhaps six weeks or more with a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, bad news for the Lakers!!  Also, National Signing Day!  Will update top ten recruiting classes a bit later!  I have been hard at work clearing up technical issues with the digital version of my book, Surviving “Paradise”.   Remember, my book is available at Amazon.com in paperback for $9.99 and kindle edition for $3.03.   I am working to make it the best reading experience as possible for you!

Nkemdiche to Ole Miss

Robert Nkemdiche, the #1 high school recruit in the nation announced this morning he would indeed be following his older brother to play for the Ole Miss Rebels.  Happy day for them, Nkemdiche is 6’5″ and weighs in at 260 lbs., choosing them over LSU and Florida.  There is no drama when you do what momma wants!  His mom really wanted him to be at Ole Miss with his brother.  Nkemdiche had been a bit torn, very recently making another visit to LSU but in the end, he made his mom happy along with a whole bunch of Ole Miss fans.  He will be a huge star there (his brother had a big year this past year as well).

The top ten recruiting classes are shifting a bit, UGA moving up a notch and Ole Miss jumping into the top ten after Nkemdiche’s confirmation.  This should shift some throughout the day so we will check back later to see how it all shakes out!

Tuesday night hoops…

LA Lakers survive the Brooklyn Nets, 92 – 83 and bring their record to 3 -1 in the middle of the “Grammy” seven game road trip they are on.  Kobe had a huge dunk and the Lakers went on a 10 -1 run in the fourth period to take the lead and never trailed again.  Bad news, Pau Gasol inured his right foot/ankle in the last period and went to the locker room and did not return.  LA cannot afford to have both Gasol and Howard out.  Hope Gasol’s injury is minor and he will ready to go for next road game (at the Garden vs. Boston).

In College Basketball, 2 Florida gets hammered by Arkansas, 80 – 69.  Rankings mean nothing when you play on the road in the world of college basketball!  It is tough to win on the road.  Just ask 3 Michigan (#1 last week before loss to now 1 Indiana at Assembly Hall).  They currently trail 10 Ohio State 34 – 35 early in the second period in Ann Arbor.  Still more playing time to go in that one…Michigan prevails 76 – 74 in a wild and frantic finish (OT).  Important win for them in Big Ten.

On the rise, the surprising #8 Miami Hurricanes easily handled Boston College at home, 72 – 50.

Oops. National Signing Day is tomorrow…

Apologies, tomorrow is the real National Signing Day in college football.  Today, just a preview, a teaser!  Coverage on ESPNU again from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm EST.  I guess we will wait one more day to see where top recruit Nkemdiche is headed, Ole Miss like Momma says??  One interesting story today, highly recruited LB Reuben Foster.  He has been flip flopping between Auburn and Alabama for two years.  He originally committed to Bama, then he changed his mind and decided he would take his talents to Auburn, even getting a tattoo to commiserate his decision.  Well, a tattoo is not a promise people, always remember that.  Today, Foster chose Nick Saban and Bama!

I gotta say, what was I thinking?  National Signing Day is always on Wednesday!  I blame it on Super Bowl hangover.

Lakers to face Nets without Howard and World Peace

The Lakers will travel to the tri-state area (formerly New Jersey, now Brooklyn) to take on the Nets without the services of Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace.  Howard is still out with his shoulder injury, and Metta, well, World Peace is being himself and serving a one game suspension for an altercation with Piston’s guard Brandon Knight in this past Sunday’s victory.  So, it will be up to Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, and the supporting cast…to get the job done!
