NBA on Christmas Day

What would Christmas Day be without Kobe and the Lakers?  Seriously, it is tradition, the Lions play football on Thanksgiving and the Lakers play basketball on Christmas!

NBA schedule for Christmas Day is an enticing one: ( all times are EST)  noon: Celtics vs. Nets;  3:00 pm Knicks in LA to take on Kobe and the Lakers; 5:30 pm a rematch of last years Championship series, OKC visits LeBron and Miami; 8:00 pm Houston Rockets will be in the windy city to take on the Chicago Bulls; and at 8:00 pm it is back to LA as the Nuggets will take on the LA Clippers and the Blake Griffin show.

Should be something for everyone in this lineup!  Games are on ESPN and ABC.

It is pouring rain in Seattle…

It is pouring rain in Seattle and San Francisco is getting a good ole fashioned tail whooping at the hands of the Seahawks.  Kind of surprising but Seattle has just dominated this game and leads 42 – 13 with less than two minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  The Seahawks are undefeated at home.  They love the rain!

Remember in Sleepless in Seattle when Meg Ryan’s character is talking to her brother and the conversation turns to Seattle…”it rains every day in Seattle, I do not want to move to Seattle…but what I really don’t want to do is always wonder”…OK enough, you all saw the movie.  Anyway, I do not know if it rains every day in Seattle but it is pouring rain tonight!!  And Seattle is scoring at will.  That is a wrap for MNF and NFL action today.

Back with you tomorrow…

Movie night anyone?

Lots of great Christmas movies on always at this time of year.  Also, some great movies that seem to be best watched again and again during the holidays.

Tonight, I could not resist Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey (maybe that explains why) and Jennifer Garner.  But most of all, The Sound of Music was on and for some reason I cannot get this thought out of my mind, so I am going to just throw it out there.  This movie is a classic; beautiful story, acting and scenery and there is just something about Christopher Plummer.  He is superb, in everything, but for some reason I kept watching him in this movie, a very young Christopher Plummer and was reminded of Russell Crowe.  Perhaps something in his mannerisms?  It was just a thought or an impression that kept reoccurring to me, so call me crazy, but I enjoyed both movies.

A few other movies have been cute and cheesy, some on Lifetime, some on Hallmark Channel.  One I found sort of cute was Mira Sorvino in Finding Mrs. Claus.  OK, I may have gone too far now, but hey, tis the season!

Peyton has a big day, Eli not so much…

Peyton Manning had a great day, 3 TD’s, 1 interception, 339 passing yards as the Denver Broncos improve to 12 – 3 with a win over Cleveland, 34 – 12.  Eli and the Giants, well they were awful for the second week in a row, falling to Baltimore 33 – 14.  Chicago took care of Arizona 28 – 6 and now we have San Francisco and Seattle up tonight.

The NFC East is still unresolved.  Washington will host Dallas next weekend and if the Redskins win, they are the division champs and will head to the playoffs.  The Redskins can lose and still possibly make the playoffs.  For the Cowboys, it will be win or go home.  Even the Giants still have a shot at making the post season but the way they are playing, well, maybe they should plan on staying home this year, we can call it the Super Bowl Champ hangover?

AFC Winners: Houston, Denver, New England and Baltimore.  Wild card teams: Indy and Cincinnati

NFC Winners: Atlanta, San Francisco, Green Bay, and Washington(?)  Wild card teams: Seattle and Minnesota;  Still in the running:  New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears

Anyhow, the divisional winners and wild card team lineups are starting to take shape but we still have one more weekend to play before the picture  becomes perfectly clear.

Later…

Indy “in Luck”, make playoffs

The Indianapolis Colts with rookie QB Andrew Luck have made the playoffs with a 20 – 13 win over Kansas City.  Luck has surpassed Cam Newton for most passing yards by a rookie quarterback.

Elsewhere, Dallas fell to New Orleans in OT, 34 – 31.  New Orleans had a pass reception fumbled and recovered at the one yard line in OT and then kicked the winning field goal.  Drew Brees had 446 yards passing.  Now Dallas must win next weekend and await the outcome of the Giants game this afternoon as well as the results of both the Redskins and Giants next week.

Speaking of the Redskins, Washington and RGIII clinched a playoff spot with a 27 – 20 victory over Philadelphia.  Cincinnati appears headed to the post season by virtue of a 13 – 10 win over Pittsburgh.  Green Bay crushed Tennessee 55 – 7, making a strong bid to be the number two seed in the NFC behind the Falcons.  Aaron Rodgers had a huge day, passing for over 340 yards.  New England overcame a bad start to defeat Jacksonville, 23 – 16 in a game marred by interceptions, two by Tom terrific and 3 by Chad Henne for the Jaguars.  San Diego beat the Jets, 27 – 17, not sure who played QB for the Jets, think it was McElroy, does it really matter?  And in Houston, the Vikings upset the Texans 23 – 6 but Adrian Peterson was held to 86 yards rushing and now needs 208 yards next week to break the record.  Will it happen, doesn’t look good but we shall see.

Late day action has Peyton and Denver looking strong with Peyton already passing for 2 TD’s and 221 yards in the first half.  Little bro Eli and the Giants are not faring so well as they trail Baltimore, 17 – 7 in the first half.  Chicago leads Arizona 14 – 3.

NFL Today…

It is the next to last weekend in the regular season in the NFL.  Some important games are on tap today which will determine playoff contenders, and those who will stay home.

First and most importantly, where in the world are the Manning brothers?  Both are in action, and both are in action later today.

First up will be New Orleans at Dallas (both trying to keep playoff hopes alive, New Orleans needs help); Tennessee is at Green Bay; Indy is at Kansas City and with a win will secure a playoff spot; Washington with RG III can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Philadelphia (no Vick); Cincinnati needs a win over Pittsburgh; Minnesota is at Houston, and all eyes will be on Adrian Peterson as he attempts to break Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.

Late afternoon games showcase the Manning boys!  Cleveland at Denver (there’s Peyton!); Eli and the Giants at Baltimore; and Chicago at Arizona.

SNF features San Francisco at Seattle.

There you have it, great day to watch and enjoy!

Nash returns, Lakers rally

Christmas came early for the Lakers!  Steve Nash returned last night and the Lakers came from behind to defeat the Warriors, 118 – 115.  Nash had 12 points and 9 assists in his return, dishing the ball with precision and accuracy just as he has done so brilliantly throughout his 17 year career.  Kobe had 34 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal.  Lakers defense needs some work, but offense is looking A-OK!

In other sports news, Nick Swisher, formerly of the NY Yankees, has signed a lucrative four year deal with the Cleveland Indians ($54 million).  He is married to the lovely Joanna Garcia (actress).

Also, rumors abound that at the end of the season, Tim Tebow is headed home, that would be back to Jacksonville to play for his hometown team, the Jaguars.  I don’t know, not confirmed but could very well happen.
