Heisman Candidates News…

Well, the awards are starting to roll in for a couple of the  Heisman Trophy Award finalists.  Collin Klein has won the Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the top upperclassmen QB in the nation.  Congrats!  Manti Te’o has received the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s best line backer.  He also has received the Bronco Nagurski Award, given to the top defensive player.  Congrats to Te’o!  That leaves Johnny “Football” Manziel!  A freshman.  What award will he receive?  Perhaps the Heisman Trophy this Saturday night in New York?  ( He was named SEC offensive player of the year!)

Monday Night Football report!

Sorry to be a bit late with this, it has just been one of those days, know you all can identify with that!!  Anyhow, MNF game was terrific.  RG III and Redskins outlasted Eli and the New York Giants, 17 – 16.  This is the third consecutive win by the Redskins and they are back in the race for their division!  RG III has been called by many the most exciting new player in the NFL!  He may well be.  One sign in the crowd summed it up, “RG III, We have been waiting 80 years for you”!  That being said, Eli and his hair looked REALLY good.  Those wavy locks were to die for, and I personally really liked the scruffy facial hair, a shade more than the five o’clock shadow!!  What do you guys think??

Monday news…

The Lakers fell to the Orlando Magic last night, 113 – 103 in Dwight Howard’s first meeting against his former team.  Kobe scored 34, count down to 30,000 career points continues and is closing!  After the game, Kobe remarked in regard to Pau Gasol spending the last portion of the final period on the bench and the criticisms of him being ineffective by saying, Pau is just going to have to adjust, to put his big boy pants on and go out there and get it done!!  I like the “put the big boy pants on” part!

NFL news: Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Nick Foles will start at QB for the remainder of the season.  OK??? Wonder how Micheal Vick feels about that, is it due to the concussion,  performance  or both so far this year?

MNF game should be a gem:  First of all, you have two great heads of hair at opposing quarterback positions, Eli Manning and RG III.  Also, both are very exciting players who you would love to have with the ball in their hand with the game on the line.  Hopefully, this game will not disappoint.  Giants vs. Redskins

College Football:  Heisman Finalists to be announced tonight!

Also, in World News (?) Prince William and Kate are expecting their first child!!  Congrats to them.  They are cute!!  They really are!

Stay tuned…

What is Kobe doing?  After 3 in LA, Kobe Bryant has 24 points (62 to go for 30,000 career points) with the Lakers holding a slight lead over the Magic, 77 – 73.

That is all for today folks, until tomorrow…

Other BCS bowls:

Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. Louisville

Cotton Bowl: Texas A & M vs. Oklahoma

Fiesta Bowl: Oregon vs. Kansas State (this  looks like a good one!)

Orange Bowl: FSU vs. Northern Illinois ( a surprise, the BCS buster, Northern Illinois!)

Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Stanford

Other notable bowl game match ups:

Chick-fil-A in Atlanta: 12/31/12,  LSU vs. Clemson (a good one!) SEC vs. ACC one more time

Hyundai Sun Bowl from El Paso, Texas: 12/31/12, Georgia Tech vs. USC (as expected, GO JACKETS!)

Capital One Bowl from Orlando, FL: 1/1/13, UGA vs. Nebraska

Outback Bowl from Tampa, FL: 1/1/13, South Carolina vs. Michigan (surprise?)

Many other bowls, but these are the highlights!  We have College Football through the first week in January of 2013!!  I am not complaining!

And now we have the BCS standings…

Here it is!  The BCS poll!  1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 Florida, 4 Oregon, 5 Kansas State, 6 Stanford (thank you!), 7 UGA, 8 LSU, 9 Texas A & M and 10 South Carolina.

This means Florida will get a BCS berth and Oregon will as well.  Oregon will likely play Kansas State (winner of the Big 12) in the Fiesta Bowl. Florida will probably head to the Sugar Bowl.

I am delighted to see the respect given to Stanford at number 6, who will play Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

All the Bowl match ups will be announced shortly.  One we can count on, The National Championship game will be 1 Notre Dame vs 2 Alabama.

Another thing we can count on, everyone will not be happy, and will not agree with the selection process!

Killing Them Them Softly fails to score at the box office…

Apparently the lure of Brad Pitt was not enough to carry the new movie Killing Them Softly at the box office this weekend.  Brad’s new movie fell short of making the top five.  The final installment of The Twilight Series won the box office again, with Twi-Hard fans still turning out in droves.  Skyfall continues to do well (see earlier post).  That is OK,  I want to see Brad’s latest movie and will give an update once I get there to see it!

Thank you Peyton!

Thank you Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos!   They defeated Tampa Bay 31 – 23 and clinched the AFC West Division.  Peyton threw for 3 touchdowns with one interception and amassed 242 yards passing in the victory.  Moreover, this means the Atlanta Falcons are assured of winning the NFC South!  Thank you Peyton and the Denver Broncos!   Peyton will be back in action this Thursday against the Oakland Raiders.

The Pittsburgh Steelers led by backup QB Charlie Batch denied the Ravens the opportunity to clinch their division, as the Ravens lost to to the Steelers, 23 -20.  I know the Steelers are looking forward to Big Ben getting healthy and returning.  Not to diminish the effort put forth by Batch and the Steelers.

In College Football news:  University of South Florida has fired Skip Holtz after three years.  He is the son of ESPN analyst Lou Holtz (former coach of Notre Dame.).

Final results from the World Challenge Golf Tournament in Sherman Oaks, CA: (light rain falling)

Graeme McDowell wins with a score of -17, edging out Keegan Bradley who finished at – 14.  Bo Van Pelt finished at – 10 and Furyk, Fowler and Woods all finish at – 9.  Congrats to Graeme!
