Thoughts on Nashville…

The new ABC hit drama Nashville was on last night for out viewing pleasure.  My thoughts again run along the lines of  the character of Deacon being at heart, a good guy.  He was protective of his niece, who was in a relationship with someone who placed his own ambition as more important than having character and valuing her as a person and companion.  Rayna’s father continues to show what a “snake” he is, and I expect that will become more and more glaringly apparent as the season progresses.  The character of Juliette, portrayed by the adorable Hayden Panettiere (adorable in real life, not so much in this series), found herself a “choir boy” to play with.  He is a do gooder college football player.  Have to wonder what bad things may befall him if that relationship progresses.  And then there is good ole Teddy, Rayna’s husband, running for mayor with the backing of his father in law.  Teddy is almost a snake, maybe has been a snake, perhaps will become even more of a snake.  I still think there is more to be told about Teddy, his past and what will eventually play out between Rayna and Deacon.  The show must go on…and it will as ABC has ordered up a full season of this new hit!!!

College Football: North Carolina at Virginia, the Yahoos being the team that took out Miami’s attempt to clinch the Coastal Division in the ACC last weekend with a 41 – 40 last minute upset.

Take your pick??

Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men on as well, always good for a chuckle!

Whitney is back…

The hilarious comedy starring Whitney Cummings is back.  I really like this show, she is such a trip.  I guess it has returned for now???  She and Alec”‘got married” at the end of last year’s episodes, ie. they decided they did not need a real ceremony, they would be married in the spirit of committing their lives to each other, not in the traditional sense.  Anyhow, the best line from the show was not between them, in spite of the visit from her nut job of a mother, but was in fact between her two friends Roxanne and Alex (not to be confused with Alec).  One is crashing at the other’s place because her ex finance decided he liked boys and she does not have a job or any money.  When she expressed how inadequate she felt about the situation, Roxanne told her she liked covering for her, she was kind of like having a cat, one that talked!  Love it!  I want a cat, except one that is really a cat, and does not talk.

Time to catch up with my DVR and Parenthood.

Later tonight, Nashville!!

Little MLB news…

Tampa Bay ace David Price edged out Detroit’s Justin Verlander for the AL Cy Young Award.  Also, the Florida Marlins (who earlier fired their manager) decided to clean house today, trading five high salaried players.  It is a payroll issue, or are they really trying to change their fortune on the field??  Not the best following for this team in Miami.

Just a little bit of baseball news, with football frenzy abounding and basketball just getting started!!

You want it, you love it, here it is…weekend College Football preview!

Here we go. this weekend’s College Football Preview!! Let’s start with the noon games: 10 FSU at Maryland, FSU can clinch the Atlantic Division in the ACC with a win.  I think they will!

Western Carolina at 4 Alabama.  Heaven help Western Carolina!

Jacksonville State at 6 Florida.  Exhibition game, like the above.  Florida rolls!

Wofford at 9 South Carolina.  Another exhibition game.  Wonder if Marcus Lattimore will put in an appearance at the following week’s rivalry game vs. Clemson?

Georgia Southern at 5 UGA.  Georgia Southern should put up some rushing yards against UGA, but dawgs likely win with ease.  Also, interesting scheduling of Georgia Southern prior to rivalry game with GT, perhaps a bit of practice for defense in anticipation of the wishbone attack of the Jackets!  (GO JACKETS!)

Mid day games: 10 USC at 17 UCLA.  One of the interesting match ups in the Pac 12 this weekend.  Would go with USC if it were not at UCLA.  (Not a lot of distance between the two schools).  Should be interesting.

Ole Miss at 7 LSU.  LSU wins!

North Carolina State (the destroyer of FSU’s BCS hopes) vs. 11 Clemson.  Clemson wins.

Wake Forest at 3 Notre Dame.  Notre Dame remains undefeated.

23 Texas Tech at 24 Oklahoma State.  This is a good one, a toss up, pick’em for sure!

At last, Duke at Georgia Tech.  The Jackets can stay alive in the race for Coastal Division in the ACC.  Also, they can become bowl eligible.  Duke is good, but with emerging superstar QB Vad Lee and the offense rolling, GT should win and get ready for showdown with instate rival UGA in Athens the next week.

Evening games: Both number 1 (Kansas State) and 2 (Oregon) in action.  1 Kansas State at Baylor.  This could be a good game, if Kansas State wins decisively, it will go a long way into making them even more legitimate.

The big one: 13 Stanford at 2 Oregon.  This is a BIG game.  Oregon must win to keep their hopes alive of getting into the BCS Championship game.  Stanford has a great defense, but can they stop the “quack attack”?  No one has been able to so far.  I predict an Oregon win at home, but it could be a really good game!

That’s the preview, get ready to enjoy.  I know I am!!

Updated Heisman Frontrunners

This week, according to all the sports gurus, the top five Heisman Candidates are as follows:

1 Collin Klein, 2 Johnny “Football” Manziel, 3 Marquis Lee, 4 Kenyon Barner and 5 Macota Tao.

Kansas State QB still appears to be in the lead.  The big upset win over Alabama has catapulted Johnny Manziel into the number two spot.  Perhaps the USC video campaign has help Marquis Lee, along with his multifaceted game, offense, defense and special teams.  Barner had a quiet game last week for Oregon, relatively speaking after the 300 plus yards rushing the week prior, and Notre Dame’s Tao is a defensive player (rare for a Heisman winner to be a defensive player).

There you have it, this week’s top five Heisman contenders!

Basketball final and sexiest man alive??

Last night 9 Duke behind 23 points scored by Seth Curry was able to hold off a late surge by 3 Kentucky and pull off the upset 75 – 68.  I am not really sure it can truly be labeled an “upset”.  Duke is Duke!

In NBA action, the Lakers (new coach D’Antoni not yet present) fell to the Spurs, 84 – 82, thanks to a 3 point shot by Danny Green at the buzzer.

People Magazine has named this year’s Sexiest Man Alive…drum roll…and it is Channing Tatum!  Agree, disagree, good choice?

Back later!
