Victory for the Tigers in Motown…

The Detroit Tigers win 2-1 over the Yankees and take a 3-0 lead in the ALCS.  The Tigers had Verlander on the mound and the Yankees (minus Jeter and with A Rod and Swisher benched) go down and now will  face an elimination game tomorrow night.  They got a run in the 9th and had two men on base when Raul Ibanez came to the plate.  There would be no 9th inning heroics from Ibanez on this night and things do not look good for New York.  Could be a celebration party in Motown tomorrow night, maybe???

Switching it up…?

Neither Alex Rodriguez nor Nick Swisher are in tonight’s starting line-up for game 3 of the ALCS in Detroit.  Interesting?  (Just a little pop culture tidbit – Nick Swisher is married to the lovely Joanna Garcia-Swisher of the new show Animal Practice).  Anyhow, we’ll see if this change makes any difference tonight!

The Sheriff is back…

The Sheriff is back and that was on full display on MNF as Denver manhandled San Diego 35-24.  After all, there are few certainties in life, and in sports.  One would be that Roger Federer is a uniquely gifted and tremendously talented tennis player and champion!  The same could be said of Peyton Manning, along with the cerebral leadership he brings to the game.  The Broncos stunk up the first half with turnovers and sloppy play and found themselves down 0 – 24 at the half.  The second half was about San Diego making sloppy and careless mistakes and a great quarterback leading his team to victory by capitalizing on every situation that presented itself.  Peyton went 13 for 14 in pass completions in the second half, at one point he was 12 for 12.  This was the largest come from behind victory in the history of Monday Night Football.  It was also likely a major step and turning point for the Denver Broncos.  As for Peyton Manning, well he was doing what Peyton Manning does, lifting and inspiring everyone around him to play better.  It results in Winning!  It is also called Greatness!!

In San Francisco, the Giants beat the Cards 7-1 to level the NLCS series at 1-1.

Monday night sports…

Tonight, Game 2 of the NLCS from beautiful San Francisco.  The Giants vs. Cardinals will go head to head with MNF and Peyton Manning vs. the San Diego Chargers, from beautiful San Diego (notice a theme here??)  Also, Lefty, Phil Michelson will attempt a chip shot for charity at half time.

Other news, Raven Linebacker Ray Lewis is out for the year.  Could this also mean the end of his stellar career?

The ALCS will resume on Tuesday from Detroit, with the Tigers up 2-0 over the struggling Yankees.

Enjoy!!

Box Office Surprise?

This past weekend, Argo, the outstanding new movie starring  Ben Affleck and directed by him as well, did not win the box office.  It came in second to Taken 2 starring Liam Neeson ( really admire him, especially the classy way he handled all the attention surrounding the tragic and unexpected death of his wife Natasha Richardson a few years back).  I saw the original Taken on demand and thought it was great, have not yet seen Taken 2.  Still, cannot believe Argo did not surpass it this past weekend.  Again, go see Argo!!

Last Team Standing…

The Atlanta Falcons are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL after the Packers hammered the previously undefeated Houston Texans last night, 42-24.  How about those Falcons!!

NLCS final score: St. Louis 6 – Giants 4    St. Louis takes 1-0 lead in the series.

The Good Wife was not just good last night, I thought it was Great!!

First BCS poll out…

For better or worse, the first BCS poll is out!  Numbers 1 – 10 are as follows: 1 Alabama, 2 Florida, 3 Oregon, 4 Kansas State, 5 Notre Dame, 6 LSU, 7 South Carolina, 8 Oregon State, 9 Oklahoma and 10 USC.  Why did Oregon drop from 2 to 3???  Perhaps Florida rose on the basis of their win over LSU who just beat South Carolina who had previously whipped Georgia?  Don’t know anything except one thing is certain; there will be changes before all is said and done.  A lot more college football remains to be played!

ALCS: Detroit over Yankees 3-0  Tigers take 2-0 lead in the series.

New York football teams fared better as both Giants and Jets won today.

Two good battles going on tonight:  Green Bay leads Houston on Sunday Night Football and in the first  NLCS game, the Giants trail St. Louis 4-6 in the 5th.
