Cute story regarding Rory Mcilroy and Caroline Wozniacki

Apparently the couple that exercises together, stays together. Caroline Wozniacki and Rory Mcilroy love to work out and both are extremely fit, losing a bit of “baby fat” they had before becoming a couple. According to Caroline who is currently playing at the Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA, Rory has become so obsessed with going to the gym, she sometimes wants to take a break and just rest. He wants to run and go to the gym. After finishing up in California, she and Rory plan to reunite in Miami and “work out”. They are a very cute couple!

Speaking of Wozniacki, she advances into the semifinals of the Paribas Open today as #1 seed Azarenka withdraws due to illness. Also advancing, Kerber over Sam Stosur, due to walkover.

A lot of great tennis still to come today, with the “big”one at 10:00pm EST, Nadal vs. Federer! Need I say more?

An old rivalry resumes tonight in the desert

An old rivalry, one of the best ever in tennis will take center stage tonight from the Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA when 2 Roger Federer and 5 Rafael Nadal meet in quarterfinal action.  Both of these players struggled to find their way through to the quarters and both had a bit of an issue with the referee (unusual for both of them).  Fed defeated Wawrinka 6- 3, 6 -7, 7- 5.  Nadal lost the first set to Gulbis 4 – 6, and then rallied to take the next two sets 6 -4, 7 -5.  With all the attention shifting to 1 Djokovic and 3 Murray as Federer “ages” and Nadal struggles with his fragile knees, some might say this is not THE rivalry in tennis any longer.  Perhaps we will find out differently this evening and see that like a fine wine, these two in action against each other just gets better and better with age!  Coverage of this match is at 10:00 pm EST on Tennis Channel.  Earlier, Berdych will take on the surprising Kevin Anderson of South Africa. Other two quarterfinals will feature Murray vs. Del Potro and Djokovic vs. Tsonga.

Beautiful day today in Indian Wells, CA with the Santa Rosa Mountains in the background!

Bad news for Lakers

Kobe Bryant is out indefinitely with a severe ankle sprain sustained in last night’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta.  Really bad news for the Lakers and the loss last night was also a setback.  With Pau Gasol also out until April, I now have got to really wonder if that promise Kobe (Dwight &  Nash) made about making the playoffs can happen?  I am sure Kobe planned on playing in each and every game when he handed down that guarantee.

In college basketball all the conference tourneys are getting underway, all over the TV Channels and they will continue into the weekend and wrap up on Selection Sunday.  Going to be really interesting to see who takes Big 12, Big East, Big 10, SEC and ACC – perhaps a Duke- Miami final?  Stay tuned…

Update on Kobe: Jalen Rose of ESPN says Kobe will miss two games, the Lakers will go 1-1 and then Kobe will be back and the Lakers will make the playoffs!  Thanks for that optimistic prediction!

Lakers fall to the Hawks in the ATL

The LA Lakers fell to the Atlanta Hawks in a close one tonight, 96 – 92.  Great effort and comeback by the Hawks.  Very tough loss for the Lakers who are trying to hold onto the precarious “8th” playoff spot.  Kobe Bryant exploded in the third period and finished with 31 points.  He did come down awkwardly and roll his ankle in the closing seconds when he attempted a two point shot that would have tied the game and missed.  Interesting to note was all the Lakers fan support in the crowd in Atlanta.

Tennis updates from all of today’s and tonight’s action in Indian Wells, CA coming tomorrow!  Hint…Federer wins but goes three tough sets against countryman Wawrinka.  Until later…

Tiger’s ex has a new beau?

Reportedly, Tiger Woods’ ex Elin Nordegren is dating her neighbor, billionaire coal tycoon, Chris Cline.  He is 53 and Elin is 33.  Gee, from a millionaire to a billionaire?  (Yuck, OK, enough, I should just stop here!)  Anyhow, he is rumored to be a twice divorced father of four, originally from, yes you guessed it, West Virginia.  In addition to his mansion near Elin’s in North Palm Beach, Florida, he owns a yacht named “Mine Games”.  Interesting, I believe Tiger Woods also owns a yacht, in fact he and Elin spent their honeymoon aboard said yacht and it is named “Privacy”.  Recent reports show Tiger and his new gal pal Olympic Skiing Champion Lindsey Vonn preparing to set sail aboard “Privacy”.  Perhaps she is going to recuperate from her recent season ending knee surgery and he is going to celebrate his victory last Sunday at the WGC-Cadillac Golf Championship.

Well, happy sailing to all of them!

P.S. ABC hit Nashville has been a “repeat” the past two weeks so I cannot give you a recap of that juicy drama.  I felt like I needed to give you something!

Superman returns home

Superman ( Dwight Howard) returned home to Orlando last night as the Lakers took on the Magic and he put on a show!  One would hardly call the fan’s welcome home to Howard as warm, instead full of boos and jeering gestures and signs.  I think Dwight got the last laugh!  Not only did the surging Lakers defeat Orlando on the road last night, 106 – 97, but Howard scored 39 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.  He went to the free throw line 39 times (a career record) and made 25 of them!  The Magic’s “hack a Howard” tactic certainly backfired and Dwight was up to the task at the free throw line last evening.  Pick and roll was on full display from Nash to Howard as well.  Kobe Bryant finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists.

The Lakers are now 1/2 game ahead of Utah in the “sought after” 8th playoff spot.  They travel to Atlanta tonight to take on the Hawks who got thumped by Lebron and Miami last night.

The slate of tennis matches in store for us today at the Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA is a virtual “who’s who” in the current world of men’s tennis!  To catch up from late action yesterday first, Murray easily defeated Y Lu, 6 – 3, 6- 2; Del Potro advanced over Phau; Azarenka defeated U Radwanska, 6 -3, 6 -1 but struggled with a right leg/foot injury; and Wozniacki took care of N. Petrova, 7 – 6, 6 – 3.

Today’s round 4 action offers some great matchups: Djokovic vs. American Sam Querrey; Roger Federer against his fellow Swiss player and friend, Stan Wawrinka; Murray back in action against Berlocq; Rafael Nadal vs. Gulbris; Berdych vs. Gasquet; resurgent T. Haas vs. Del Potro; and hard serving M. Raonic vs. the always entertaining J. Tsonga.
