Danica dating fellow driver

Danica Patrick, the “Go Daddy” girl, former IndyCar racer who is now competing in the NASCAR Nationwide series is dating fellow race car driver Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.  Danica is 30, Ricky is 25.  You go girl!  Danica announced her divorce this past November (my Indy insider gave me the heads up a bit in advance).  Anyhow, they make a cute couple so congrats to them.

In other sports dating news, rumor has it that Tiger Woods, currently competing at Torrey Pines in the Farmers Insurance Golf Tournament and Olympic Champion and all around skiing great, Lyndsey Vonn are dating.  Really?  Don’t know if it is rumor or fact, although several reputable news publications have confirmed that it is true.  They met because Tiger enjoys skiing and Lindsey is apparently teaching his kids to ski.  She is blonde and beautiful…I am just saying.  Time will tell!

Observations after watching Federer – Murray semifinal

After watching the replay of the thrilling five set semifinal match between Roger Federer vs. Andy Murray, here are some observations (albeit from a Federer fan!!).

1) Roger looked a bit tired, no denying it.  The five set quarterfinal match with Tsonga took it’s toll.  Important to note: Roger Federer has never played back to back five set matches in a Grand Slam.

2) From a superstitious viewpoint:  He wore the wrong color undershirt.  He should have worn the black one, wore it at Wimbledon and in the five set victory over Tsonga two days prior.  Just saying…

3) Federer did not play aggressive, attacking tennis like he needs to do to win against the likes of Murray, Djokovic and Nadal at this stage in his career.  Part of this can perhaps be attributed to Murray’s play and Roger having to play a good bit of defensive tennis.

4) Finally, Federer’s magnificent serve was sketchy.  He needs this very important weapon to be spot on when he plays the likes of the other big four players to have a really great shot at winning.  His serve was good, but not up to the standard he needs it to be at in a match of this magnitude against this great level of competition.

OK, I am a Federer fan, and I am sad.  I will get over it.  Hoping for a great final between Djokovic and Murray.  Onto the next Masters Tournament in which Federer will compete and I still believe…he will win a Slam in 2013!  (Making it 18!)

Fed falls to Murray in five sets down under

3 Andy Murray has beaten Roger Federer for the first time in a Grand Slam.  Even though Murray held a slight edge in their over all match ups coming into the Australian Open semifinal match, Federer was 3 – 0 against Andy in Grand Slams.  No longer as Murray prevailed in a tough five set win that lasted four hours.  Andy had sailed through his matches in the tournament, not really being tested (Del Potro getting knocked out by Chardy helped) and Federer had looked terrific but did face a tough three and a half match in the quarters with Tsonga (5 sets).  This match went the distance as well and for me, it did not go the right way.  I am sad but will watch the replay to see just how it all went down.  Reading about it is one thing, watching is another.  I had hoped for a Federer-Djokovic final but it will in fact be Djokovic vs. Murray for the Australian Championship.  There are those in the media who are calling this match up the new great rivalry in tennis.  This of course factors in Nadal’s absence and questions about his status once he returns next month.  It is a great rivalry, these two came up through the ranks together and are the “same age”.  The old guy, Mr. Federer is 31 and will turn 32 later this year.  Don’t count him out of these next majors.  Congrats to Andy.  Should be a great final with Djokovic.  As a loyal and devoted Fed fanatic, I say look for Roger to be right back in it come Wimbledon and the US Open.  There are of course some Masters Tournaments in between the Slams that all of the big four will be competing in as well.

Couple of February movies I would like to see

Couple of cute February movies I have been seeing previews for.  First, Identity Theft with the wonderfully funny Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly, Bridesmaids) and Jason Bateman (so many great movies).  It looks too funny and will be out February 8th.

Next, a good old romantic drama Safe Haven with Juianne Hough (formerly of Dancing with the Stars) and the hot, hot Josh Duhamel (Fergie’s husband).  It comes out on February 15th, so guys, get ready to take your wives/girlfriends to this movie!  (You know, Feb. 14th is Valentine’s Day!)

TV/DVD alert

At long last, Matt Damon will make the cut and appear on Jimmy Kimmel tonight.  Or will he?  Matt is Jimmy’s scheduled guest for tonight’s show.  Everyone familiar with the Kimmel show knows that the standing and long running joke has been that at the end of the show, Jimmy apologizes to Matt Damon, they have run out of time and will have to bump him from the guest lineup.  This prompted the ridiculously hilarious video with Sarah Silverman (then Jimmy’s girlfriend) and Matt Damon.  Jimmy retaliated with his own video, with Ben Affleck (one of the funniest videos I have EVER seen).  Now, Matt is going to make it onto the show, or at least we are told he will be a guest tonight.  Stay tuned…should be good!

P.S. Still bummed I missed seeing Matt Damon’s movie Promised Land at the theater.  Will have to wait and catch it on demand.

Tiger and Phil playing golf

Both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are in action playing golf in beautiful San Diego, CA.  The Farmers Insurance Tournament at Torrey Pines got underway today.  Snedeker and K J Choi top the leaderboard at -7.  Tiger appeared on his way to catching up with them until he stumbled down the stretch, specifically with a double bogey at the 4th so Tiger is three strokes back at -4.  Mickelson finished even.  (Rory is sitting this one out)

Come on Tiger, win this tournament!

Nashville and I think I told you so…

ABC hit drama Nashville was on last evening  in all it’s drama.  Rayna and Juliette are out on tour and Juliette is miffed because she feels she is playing second fiddle to Rayna (second fiddle to Rayna as well when it comes to Deacon).  Liam, Rayna’s new guitar player sets up a special record deal offer for her with newcomer Calista, but Rayna discovers Liam was trying to double dip and make a special deal for himself.  Given her issues with husband Teddy, Rayna is in no mood to tolerate anyone lying to her and fires him.  Meanwhile, Juliette after going to court with her addition prone mother and seeing Deacon, calls on him and begs him to join her on tour.  Deacon is down and out after quitting his tour (he wanted out anyway) and being confronted by Rayna after an untruthful but disparaging article is written regarding him.  He tells Rayna he always felt she would wait for him (after his five stints in rehab) and he is not over her choosing Teddy over him.  Rayna and Teddy are still trying to figure out their future.

Elsewhere, Avery who thinks he is now a superstar has become an obnoxious jerk, way full of himself.  His ex Scarlett and Gunner join up to play with his abandoned bandmates and Gunner still has issues regarding his exconvict brother who is now in violation of his parole.

In closing, the show ends with Rayna and Juliette boarding Juliette’s private plane to head back out on tour.  Teddy and the girls have come to see her off and late, but not to be denied, Deacon runs through the airport to board the plane much to Rayna’s surprise and Teddy’s shock and dismay.  Like I said, it was only a matter of time before Rayna and Deacon’s paths cross out on tour.  Next week, things may come to more than “paths crossing”?  Also, look for Teddy to be consoled by non other than Peggy.  This show just gets better and better!

Not Tom Brady?

Well, I did a post earlier regarding the slide QB Tom Brady made in the game against the Ravens where he appeared to stick his leg up and kick defender Ed Reed, intentionally or unintentionally?  Anyhow, the league has decided “intentionally” or at least very uncool, and has fined Tom Brady for his actions.  Gee, surprised to see Tom terrific get a reprimand of any kind!
