College Football Preview (as promised)…

Are we ready for some football!!  YES!!

Tonight, we get an appetizer for the weekend, U Conn vs. Syracuse.  OK, after that, we’ll be ready for Saturday’s tantalizing line up!!

(Brief pause; Hugh Laurie of House fame just on Anderson Live.  Love Hugh Laurie, he is so cool, so British, and House was great!!)

OK, let roll with it:  Notable games this Saturday are as follows:

6 LSU at 18 Texas A & M

2 Florida hosting 7 South Carolina

1 Alabama at Tennessee

14 FSU at Miami (likely without Stephen Morris at QB)

4 Kansas State at 13 West Virginia

11 UGA at Kentucky

Virginia Tech at 19 Clemson

and of course Georgia Tech hosts Boston College  (please, surely we can win this one!!!!!)

LSU at Texas A & M is intriguing (showcase for the freshman QB sensation Johnny Manziel at Texas A & M) but the SEC marque match up has to be South Carolina visiting the swamp in Gainesville.  Can they rebound from the painful loss in Baton Rouge?  Will Florida take a step toward securing the SEC east, with a game in Jacksonville vs. UGA looming on the horizon the following weekend?

Kansas State at West Virginia is another big one!  Can Kansas State validate their number 4 ranking?  Can Geno Smith and West Virginia rebound from their embarrassing loss at the hands of Texas Tech the week before.

Another great Saturday of College Football is in store.  Get ready!

GO JACKETS! (Please)

New in theaters…

Out this Friday is the movie Alex Cross starring Tyler Perry in the title role.  This film is based of course on the popular detective character in James Patterson’s bestselling series of books.  I love Tyler Perry.  Only a genius could create the character of Madea and play “her” as well.  That being said, Morgan Freeman is Alex Cross!!  Morgan Freeman is iconic.  Think of the characters he has played in Driving Ms. Daisy, Seven and Shawshank Redemption, just to name a very few.  I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but in Kiss the Girls Freeman was fantastic as Alex Cross.  Why replace perfection?  (Unless it was not available???)

Thursday night wrap up…

The St. Louis Cards hammered the Giants 8-3 and bring a 3-1 advantage into tonight’s game 5 in the NLCS. (8:00 pm EST)

In NFL action, a defensive battle between Seattle and San Francisco resulted in a 13-6 win for the 49ers.  Most entertaining event in this game was the odd ending, 4th down and Seattle is unsuccessful and it appears San Francisco will be awarded a safety (15-6?) but no, instead the 49ers decide to take possession of the ball and run out the clock.  (Had to dig deep for that one?)  Anyhow, victory gives them the lead in West division.

College Football last night featured 3 Oregon routing Arizona State 43-21 (take that BCS!).  Oregon still has some significant games to play, USC, Stanford and Oregon State.  Thus, the road to an undefeated season for them is hardly without hurdles,  just as the vaunted SEC teams will face the seemingly impossible task of an undefeated season.  It will all play out…just like it is supposed to.  That is, after all, why they play the games!

Back later with weekend preview!!

“Party in the House” in Motown

The Detroit Tigers are going to the World Series!!  They defeated the New York Yankees 8-1 today to advance.  They also swept the Yankees, yes, that would be bring out the brooms, swept the Yankees.  Just how decisive was this victory, well, the Tigers had 16 hits (4 home runs) to the Yankees 2 hits.  WOW!

NLCS game between Giants and Cards just getting underway (Cards up 2-1).

Football action: NFL – Seattle and 49ers

College Football – 3 Oregon at Arizona State

For non sport fans:  Big Bang TheoryTwo and a Half Men (always good for a laugh) and Grey’s Anatomy (a lot of changes this season) all on tonight!

Let’s give it another go…

The ALCS game will start this afternoon around 4:00 EST if all goes well.  The match up between the Yankees and Tigers will again feature the Yankees without both A Rod and Granderson in the line up.  They trail in the series 0-3 but do have Sabathia on the mound, so we shall see???

Tonight NLCS resumes at 7:30 EST from St. Louis.  The Cardinals are up 2-1 in this series with the Giants.

Thursday Night Football features an interesting west coast match up between Seattle (4-2) and the San Francisco 49ers (also 4-2).  This game will be in San Francisco.

College Football offers up 3 Oregon at Arizona State.  This should be quite interesting, especially since Oregon just got dissed in the first BCS rankings, dropping from 2 to 3 ??? (WHY?)  It will also be a road test for them as they have looked tremendous at home.

Big College Football preview for this weekend coming tomorrow!!

Rainout in Motown…

Down came the rain and there was no game in Motown tonight.  The Yankees and the Tigers were set to square off in what could have been an elimination game for the Yankees but they received a reprieve due to inclement weather.  They will face off tomorrow at 3;30 pm.  In a drama filled pregame buildup, it was announced that Alex Rodriguez  and Curtis Granderson would not be a part of the starting lineup, with Swisher back in the lineup.  You have to wonder if Rodriguez may have possibly played his last game in the Yankees’ pinstripes???  Moreover, what about the wisdom of these decisions.  Sure A Rod has struggled in the postseason, but you also have to ask, don’t you go with what brought you to the dance?  All will be revealed in due time.

In the NLCS the Cards prevailed over the Giants 3-1 after a lengthy rain delay.  They take a 2-1 lead in that series.  A lot less drama going on in that series, just play ball!!

A bit of NBA news: Kevin Love of the Timberwolves suffered a broken hand and will be out 6 – 8 weeks.

Also on TV, since there was no baseball, the enticing new drama on ABC Nashville was on for one’s viewing pleasure.  Secrets were promised to be revealed, but after watching the premiere, I am not sure there were really ‘secrets” that were revealed.  Perhaps, it would be better described as secrets that were pretty evident were confirmed!

Until tomorrow…

Tennis news…

Rafael Nadal has indicated that he is targeting the 2013 Australian Open next January as the most likely place he will return to competitive tournament play.  Let’s hope he does indeed get back at least by early next year!

Roger Federer will attempt to defend his title at the Swiss indoor tournament at Basel (his hometown) next week.  We all know Roger is the best indoor hard court player in the world (still at his best, the best player in the world).  At any rate, he has a lot of points to defend this fall if he wants to finish the year at number 1, with Djokovic making a huge push to overtake him.  After Basel, the tour moves to the city of lights, Paris, and then onto London for the Year End Final Event.  Would not be shocked to see Fed skip Paris should he defend in Basel and give himself a rest before heading to London.  Will have to wait and see. First things first, looking forward to seeing Roger play in Basel!
