Private Practice…

Duke vs. Kentucky is great!  But, Alfre Woodward guest staring on Private Practice is pretty cool too.  She is playing Sam’s mother (Taye Diggs, love him!).  DVR is in action to record Parenthood.  Hard to not watch Private Practice.  This is Addison’s last season (Kate Walsh).  I think she chose Jake because she could not chose Sam and leave the show???  What do you think?

Anyhow, have to see Private Practice.  Remote in action and basketball update later…(Duke leading in the 2nd half).

Thursday night alert: Christina (Sandra Oh) returns to Seattle Grace on Grey’s Anatomy.  The “queen of mean”.  Ouch!

Tomorrow, the always much anticipated Weekend College Football preview, Book plug, and Nashville is on ABC!

Basketball updates…

New L A Lakers coach Mike D’Anotni is recovering from knee surgery and will fly from NY to LA on Wednesday.  It has not been announced when he will be on the floor coaching the Lakers.   OK… will wait and see how this unfolds!  Rumor is Phil Jackson was stunned when he received a phone call on Sunday evening.  He thought he was going to be able to make a decision this past Monday.  Apparently, the Lakers made the decision a bit earlier.

Grand finale of today’s college basketball marathon, 9 Duke vs. 3 Kentucky (from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta).  Always interesting to see Pitino’s latest edition of “one and done” superstars.  Duke still has two of the Plumlee brothers, namely Mason Plumlee and they also have Seth Curry back.  This should be a nice wrap up to a full day of college basketball.  Big admirer of Coach K!!

Still not over it but…

Here it is Tuesday and I must admit I am still not over Federer not winning the WTA Year End Tournament.  I really wanted him to win!  He did have a great semifinal win over Murray.  Congrats to Novak!

MNF Pittsburgh survives Kansas City in OT, 16 -13.  Big Ben went out in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.  A rash of QB injuries in the NFL this past weekend.

Speaking of injuries, the 1 (I guess 2, if we go with BCS) Oregon Ducks are dealing with a number of injuries on defense.  Not a good time for that as they head into a very important game this weekend with 13 Stanford.

It is Tip Off Marathon on ESPN today, eleven hours of non stop college basketball hoops!!

Speaking of basketball, the Lakers will host Phoenix tonight with their new coach at the helm, Mike D’Antonio.  Will be interesting to see how they respond!

Back with you later…

Not happy with Tennis Year End Result…but it is what it is…

I love Roger Federer.  I in no way try to hide it or apologize for it. I think he is class personified, not to mention the most beautiful and talented tennis player we have ever seen (kind of quoting John McEnroe there).  Any how, he lost the ATP World Tour Final today to Novak Djokovic today, 6 – 7. 5 – 7.  OK, let’s give Djokovic his due.  He is ending the year as the no. 1 ranked player, with Federer at no. 2 (after holding no. 1 for four months!).  This loss was disappointing for Federer (as it was for me) which says so much about him, the fact that after ALL he has accomplished, he still cares so much!  I like Djokovic, I really do, but I could do without the chest pounding and the shirt ripping, just not my cup of tea.  But the result is in, Djokovic wins, he ends the year at no.1, Roger Federer ends the year at no. 2.  We all await what Rafael Nadal will bring  to 2013.  Only 60 plus days to Australian Open, the start of the tennis year for 2013.

I am disappointed, I wanted Roger Federer to win.  I ALWAYS want Roger Federer to win.  But at the end of the day, he is 31 years old, he is married with two twin daughters, he has accomplished essentially everything one could hope to accomplish in his incomparable career as a tennis champion, so he is the runner-up at the 2012 Year End Tournament.  2013 will bring what it will bring.  Until then, best wishes to all the tennis guys, and see you next year!!

No Zen Master return to LA

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Mike D’Antoni as their new head coach!! INTERESTING!  Phil Jackson, according to sources, was shocked to hear the news that he had not been the one hired??  Well, let’s evaluate.  D’Antonio may not have been the popular “people’s choice”, but he may turn out to be the right choice.  Time will tell, with  immediate results available for evaluation as the Lakers take the court against Phoenix on Tuesday night.  Kobe was reported to express his support, saying he loved Phil Jackson, but he was excited about the hire of D’Antoni.  Kobe loved playing for him while a part of Team USA, and idolized him while growing up in Italy.  Let’s face it, making Kobe “happy”, is important for the Lakers.  Also, Steve Nash earned two MVP awards while playing for D’Antoni while playing in Phoenix.  The offense should be more up tempo under D’antonio which should make both Lakers fans and players happy.  Maybe, it was one of those decisions that was based on the logic of do not go backwards, just go forward.  Let’s sit back and see…

(He reportedly recieved a three year deal worth 12 million dollars).

Concussion Sunday…

Two high profile quarterbacks suffered concussions this past Sunday in NFL action.  Micheal Vick suffered what was termed a “pretty significant concussion” in the Eagles’s loss to Dallas.  Last night in SNF, the Bear’s quarterback, Jay Cutler, went out with a concussion in what turned out to be a loss for the Bears as well, Houston 13 – 6.  The concussion issue is becoming a bigger and bigger topic in football these days.  Hope both of these two players are OK and can be back before too long.

For better or worse…the BCS is out…

The BCS Poll is now out for our viewing, reviewing, arguing, etc.  The big question, since this is what we have, will they get it right when it matters, when all the games are played and it is time to pick the top two.  Remains to be seen…for now, here is where we are:  1 Kansas State, 2 Oregon, 3 Notre Dame, 4 Alabama, 5 Georgia, 6 Florida, 7 LSU, 8 Texas A & M, 9 South Carolina, and 10 Florida State.

With the upset of Alabama by Texas A & M, all the talk is already about whether a one loss SEC team can make it to the BCS Championship game?  Well, not if two out of the top three (Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame) do not lose a game.  Right??  Then again, how does Kansas State vs. Notre Dame sound for the BCS game?  Probably not what we are all hoping for.  I want to see Oregon in the game.  They have work to do, and if they do, they should and will be there.  Who else?  I don’t know, but I do grow more and more impressed with Kansas State.  This is not going to be easy, but year after year, it never is.  And there is really no way to make everyone happy!  It is the system we now have, so wait and see what transpires.  Three more weeks to work it all out!

Pretty good game on MNF between Houston and Chicago (Houston up 10 -3).

Still pumped up about Federer over Murray and Federer vs. Djokovic tomorrow!!!

Later…

He’s still the one!!!

Roger Federer!!!  Roger Federer!!!  2 Federer defeated 3 Andy Murray today in London, 7 – 6, 6 – 2, to set up a tantalizing final tomorrow with 1 Novak Djokovic.  This was a great victory for Roger.  Fed looked a bit vulnerable after losing to Del Potro yesterday in three sets, and Murray came out strong, breaking Roger in the first game of the first set.  But as has happened so many times over the past ten years, Roger made his adjustments and broke back to even the set, finally prevailing in a tie break.  In the second set, Fed took control and now he is in the final for the eighth (yes, that is 8th!) time.

WTA Year End Tour final will air tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST on ESPN2.  Hopefully, it will live up to the hype.  1 Djokovic and 2 Federer.

Apologies to NFL fans, but when Roger is playing, for me, it is all about Mr. Federer!

And then there were none…

The Atlanta Falcons are undefeated no more, so no teams in NFL without at least one loss.  Atlanta fell to the Saints in New Orleans, 31 – 27.  The Falcons had a chance, 4th and goal at the 2 with under two minutes to play, but Ryan’s pass was broken up, or dropped, (depending on how you saw it) and Tony Gonzalez was wide open on the left side of the end zone!  Gonzalez set record for TD catches with 101.  Ryan had a nice day, passing for over 400 yards and 3 TD’s with one interception.  None the less, there are no undefeated teams in the NFL anymore.  That is OK, maybe the pressure is off.  It is a long year and there are many more games to play.  Atlanta is still in the driver’s seat in their division.

As far as the Manning boys, one had a great day (Peyton) and one had a not so good day (Eli).  Peyton and the Broncos rolled over Carolina 31- 13 and Peyton passed for over 300 yards.  Eli and the Giants fell  to the Bengals, 31 -13 and Eli had two interceptions.

A lot of NFL action today, but in all honesty, for me it was all about Roger Federer.  (see next post)!!

Coaches Poll…Oregon #1

Well, well, well, the Coaches Poll is out and look who sits atop it as well!! 1 Oregon, 2 Kansas State, 3 Notre Dame, 4 Georgia, 5 Alabama, 6 FSU, 7 Florida, 8 LSU, 9 Clemson and 10 Texas A & M.  (South Carolina comes in at #11).  Interesting that Coaches Poll put UGA ahead of Bama, even though Alabama has the much tougher schedule.  Losing early is better than losing in November!  Still, many tough games ahead, especially for Oregon!  What ever will BCS Poll look like?  We will find out tonight!
