AP and Coaches Polls out…

AP Poll and Coaches Poll are out:  AP Poll is as follows: 1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 UGA, 4 Ohio State, 5 Florida, 6 Oregon, 7 Kansas State, 8 Stanford, 9 LSU, and 10 Texas A & M.

Coaches Poll is as follows: 1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 UGA, 4 Oregon, 5 Florida, 6 LSU, 7 Kansas State, 8 Texas A & M, 9 Stanford, and 10 South Carolina.

The highest ranked ACC team in each poll is FSU at 13 in AP Poll, 12 in Coaches Poll.  Clemson comes in at 15 in the AP Poll, 14 in Coaches Poll.

Interestingly, in Coaches Poll, Notre Dame received 56 first place votes, Alabama received 2, and UGA received 1!  That must have been courtesy of Richt??  Ha Ha  Just kidding (or not?)

BCS Poll out tonight, not likely to differ much from the Coaches Poll, but we shall see.

Also, call me crazy, but I actually think Georgia Tech has a shot at beating FSU in ACC Championship Game.  Yes, I did watch the UGA-GT game yesterday.  Still, I am just saying, on any given Saturday….OK, too early to go there!

It’s Sunday, NFL today…

Still recovering from fantastic rivalry Saturday in College Football!  For our viewing pleasure today, a number of good games in NFL.

Atlanta will be at Tampa Bay.  These teams really don’t like each other much, have always been strong divisional rivals.  I don’t like the Bucs, period!  Anyhow, this could be dangerous game for the Falcons on the road.  Then they will have to regroup and be ready to host New Orleans this Thursday night.  Updates will be coming…

Later today, I will be watching San Francisco at New Orleans.  Apparently, Kaepernick (who had a very strong showing against the Bears last Monday night) will start in place of Alex Smith.  Also, Baltimore vs. San Diego (where the weather is always beautiful) will be on today as well.

Great Sunday Night Football game:  This also answers one of every Sunday’s most important questions, “Where are the Manning boys today”?  Well, Eli (the one with the flowing, curly locks) and the New York Giants will host Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Big brother, Peyton, little bit of a receding hairline (thus the awesome commercial with Dion Sanders in the fairy costumes saying when asked “where is Eli”?,  “Eli is getting a perm”!!!) and the Denver Broncos are at Kansas City.  Peyton may not have the beautiful hair, but he has the beautiful mind and passing arm!!

Should be entertaining day in the NFL!!  Back later…

We’re almost done…one still remains in the balance

Rivalry week 2012 is almost done.  8 Stanford takes care of 17 UCLA 35 – 17.  So, we will get to see this game again for the Pac 12 Championship (great??).  Oregon will not advance to the championship game.  Do we really want to see Stanford and UCLA again?  Take nothing away from Stanford, they are underrated and undervalued for sure!

The ACC goes zero for four against the SEC.  12 South Carolina takes care of of 11 Clemson, 27 – 17. South Carolina was led by back-up quarterback Dylan Thompson and their defensive star Clowney is simply put, a BEAST!  Another win for the old ball coach against his instate rival.

9 Texas A & M pounds Missouri, 59 – 29.  Johnny “Football” Manziel scores 5 touchdowns, amasses 439 yards of total offense with 3 TD passes, one interception.  Did he cement his Heisman Trophy?  Some say a freshman cannot win it.  We will find out one week from this coming Monday.  Anyone who does not get what football is all about in Texas has obviously not watched that great show Friday Night Lights!

Finally, 1 Notre Dame appears to be on its way to the BCS Championship game, leading USC 22 – 13 with just over one minute to play.  USC, lead by redshirt freshman quarterback Max Wittek and Marquis Lee (another Heisman candidate?) had an opportunity with six minutes left, 1st and goal and Notre Dame had a tremendous goal line stand.  You cannot doubt this Notre Dame defense.  Manti Te’o is the real deal! (Another Heisman candidate?) It is over, Notre Dame wins!  They will play the winner of the SEC Championship game next weekend in Atlanta (either Alabama or Georgia).  Please, let it be Alabama.

What a weekend in College Football!!

Tomorrow, we look forward to the latest AP Poll (where will 12 – 0 Ohio State wind up?), the Coaches Poll and later in the evening, the BCS Poll.

Also, the professionals will be in action, you know, the NFL.  We will see where the Manning boys will be, and revisit that popular topic of Eli and his perm!!

Hope you all enjoyed this day as much as I did!  Until tomorrow, goodnight!

Everybody take a deep breath…and here we go…

Deep breath, you know, yoga breath, now this afternoon’s results are in:  WOW, what a day it has been so far, with so much more to come tonight!!!

The ACC is currently 0 for 3 against the SEC.  GT fell earlier to UGA (hate to bring that nightmare up again) and FSU has fallen to Florida, 37 – 26.  10 FSU turned the ball over 4 times yet still took control of the game in the second half, only to see 4 Florida come storming back.  In a barnburner, 13 Oklahoma won over 21 Oklahoma State in OT, 51 – 48, dashing the hopes of former number 1 Kansas State and Collin Klein for an at large BCS berth.  5 Oregon (my “other” team) rolled over 15 Oregon State, 48 – 24.  Now, I am in a pickle.  I really like Stanford, but for Oregon to have a shot at the Pac 12 Championship game, I need 8 Stanford to lose to 17 UCLA tonight.  Right now, not looking like that is going to happen, as Stanford is up 21 – 10.  Still, a ways to go.  2 Alabama cruised right into the SEC Championship game next weekend with a big win over hapless Auburn, 49 – 0.  In Big East action (if anyone really cares), Pitt upset 18 Rutgers, 27 – 6; and in a thrilling game, U Conn defeated 20 Louisville in triple OT, 23 – 20.

A few other ACC finals: North Carolina over Maryland, 45 – 38; N C State defeated Boston College, 27 – 10; and in yet another SEC victory over the ACC, Vanderbilt over Wake Forest, 55 – 21.

Tonight, Stanford and UCLA, Clemson and South Carolina (the last hope for the ACC, but I really like the ole ball coach Steve Spurrier), Missouri and 9 Texas A & M (is Johnny Manziel the new Heisman frontrunner???), and finally 1 Notre Dame will attempt to punch their ticket to the BCS Championship game at USC (starting redshirt freshman QB Matt Wittek in place of the injured Matt Barkley).

Don’t you just love College Football!!!

Couple more final scores…

Miami survives Duke, 52 – 45 (again, as a GT fan, Thank you, I think) and in the battle of two SEC schools who will be experiencing coaching changes, Tennessee 37 – Kentucky 17.

Underway, FSU and Florida, Alabama and Auburn, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, Oregon and Oregon State.

Later…

It is done…

UGA 42 – GT 10.  It is mercifully over.  UGA will look toward next week’s game in Atlanta for the SEC Championship, with the possibility of playing for the BCS Championship should they win.  College GameDay will be in Atlanta next Saturday to preview this game, and the other conference championship games.

Georgia Tech will limp into the ACC Championship game next weekend in Charlotte, NC to face FSU.  As a Tech fan, I hope for a better performance from the Jackets.

Some other noon games are coming to an end, not quite over yet.  Some mid afternoon games just getting underway.

Virginia Tech kicked a game winning field goal with time running out to beat Virginia 17 – 14.  This makes VT bowl eligible for the 20th straight year.  Still, a very disappointing year for Frank Beamer and the Hokies.  U Conn defeats 20 Louisville, 10 – 3; Pitt defeats 18 Rutgers, 27 – 6 and Ohio State finishes undefeated under Urban Meyer, winning 26 – 21 over 19 Michigan.  (Ohio State is only eligible for ranking in the AP Poll).

More results as they come in…

It is becoming too painful to watch…

End of third quarter.  UGA 42 – GT 3.  Georgia has had seven possessions, six of them resulting in touchdowns.  Too much Gurley and Marshall (freshman running back tandem).  Georgia Tech has had five possessions of ten plus plays and only three points to show for it.  It is embarrassing and a shame.  Game not over yet, expect Richt to pull many of his starters and save them for next week’s SEC Championship game showdown with Alabama (most likely).  Hopefully, GT can look better next weekend in Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game.

4th Quarter still remains (if one is a GT fan and can endure it).  Other games winding down with some interesting results.

Some great games coming up at 3:30pm.

More to follow…

It’s halftime in Athens, and I am NOT HAPPY!

OK, I know there are many great games on today.  I will talk about all of today’s action, but first things first.  I am a Georgia Tech fan so this is the game I am focusing on first.  GT is getting their tails kicked.  It should not be happening!  We have turned the ball over three times, losing two of the three.  The critical one came after UGA scored and was up 7 -0, and we drove the ball down the field and should have had first and goal on the one.  Instead, the ball is ripped from Godhigh and UGA gets the ball on the fifty.  This has been the tempo for the game since that time.  GT cannot stop UGA, at least not so far, only forcing one three and out.  But, GT can move the ball, they have moved the ball, and they have 3 points to show for it.  The second half could be different, I sure hope so, but like I said, I am not happy!

Miami is up on Duke, 20 – 10.  If they do win, they would have gone to the ACC Championship game but instead they imposed a self ban on post season play (due to their rather alarming indiscretions being investigated by the NCAA).  FSU has already beaten Duke, Miami, and Clemson.  The halftime crew has suggested that we just let Clemson and FSU play again, instead of having a possible 6 – 6 GT team play.  HOW RUDE!!  GT has not played FSU and lost yet.  Let’s wait and see what happens next weekend.  For now, time to focus on the task at hand.  ( And by the way, thank you to Miami).

Back later with the final from this game and other action…

Footnote: I just cannot stand the thought of UGA getting to play for the BCS National Championship.  Obviously, they will likely have to get through Bama to do so and I do not like their odds.  OK, enough, enough…back later!

Pre-Showdown Saturday misc. news…

Before all the fun and craziness gets underway for one of the most special weekends in all of sport, Rivalry Weekend, a bit of other news:

The Lakers lose to the Grizzlies and are now 1 – 2 under Mike D’Antoni.  Jeremy Lin led his new team, the Houston Rockets to victory over his former team, the New York Knicks.

Rory Mcilroy and Luke Donald are tied at the top of the leaderboard in Dubai.

A few Friday rivalry game scores: LSU survives Arkansas, 20 – 13; Washington State defeated Washington in OT, 31 – 28; Arizona State upset Arizona, 41 – 34 late; and on Turkey Day, Texas fell to TCU, 20 – 13.

Pop Culture: Sad news:  Larry Hagman, iconic actor of shows like Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie, passed away at the age of 81 due to complications from his long running battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years (impressive in Hollywood), two children and five grandchildren.  Very sad.

OK, it’s time, SHOWDOWN Saturday!!  It is going be awesome!  (Early bad news for my Jackets, Georgia Tech will face UGA without their top rusher, Orwin Smith who will miss today’s game with an ankle injury)  Still, I believe!!!
