USA and away we go…

USA leads Europe in Ryder Cup 10-6 after today’s play, heading into tomorrow’s grand finale, single play.  What a performance by USA, especially a lot of the younger members of the team.  Michelson and Bradley won again this morning, and Michelson is 3-0 so far in this year’s Ryder Cup.  Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson continue to get it done.  Tiger sat this morning for the first time ever at Ryder Cup action.  He played again with Steve Stricker this afternoon and lost, going 0-3.  They were going up against Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald (who ironically lives in Chicago).  That being said, Tiger was brilliant down the stretch.  They were down 4 at the turn and heading into the final two holes they were behind by one.  Stricker missed a birdie attempt at the 18th which would have at least halved the hole.  Dustin Johnson and Jason Duffner were caught from behind in the final pairing this afternoon by Mcilroy and Poulter.  Poulter is a man on a mission, he has been the “manic” Ryder Cup payer, as he birdied 5 straight holes down the stretch.  He actually had a very scary look in his eye I thought.

The crowd has been tremendous, very raucous and chants of USA, USA rang out throughout the morning, afternoon and into the early evening.  They should be in a frenzy tomorrow, as USA is poised to hopefully bring the Ryder Cup back to America, playing on American soil!!  Again, get ‘er done USA!

In attendance were former President George W. Bush, Micheal Jordan and Micheal Phelps.

A New Low…

Well the sky is now falling.  Georgia Tech loses to Middle Tennessee 49-28.  REALLY!!!  This is the first loss for GT to a non BCS school since 1996 and the first time they have lost back to back home games since 1988.  The defense gave up 510 yards in this loss.  This comes on the heels on them giving up 609 yards in last week’s loss to Miami.  I actually missed the second half, I did DVR it but I don’t think I can stand to watch it.  What is wrong??  Is it time to look at the defensive co-coordinator, Al Groh??  They do have talent, they are smart young men, what is wrong??  Like I said above, this is certainly a new low at the flats.

Apparently VT (Virginia Tech) is not so great as they lost again today out of conference to Cincinnati.  Speaking of no defense, West Virginia prevails over Baylor 70-63.  WOW!  UGA outlasts Tennessee 51-44 but there might be some holes in that vaunted Georgia defense that were revealed today.  FSU takes care of South Florida so no “trap game” there.  Ohio State edges Michigan State 17-16, the real close battle so far today.  South Carolina fell behind to Kentucky but righted the ship and is on its way to a win.  Are there any sure things in College Football?  Probably Alabama, maybe Oregon (we will find out about that later tonight when they play Washington State.)  Clemson won, North Carolina won big and Miami won in a shoot out with N.C. State.  Miami now is in the lead in the ACC Coastal Division race.  I think FSU needs to be concerned about two games, and VT is not one of them (although they will have to play them in Blacksburg).  I think at Miami will be a real test and the Florida game, even though it is in Tallahassee, will be a war.

Heaven help GT when we play at Clemson and at Georgia, unless something clicks in very quickly!!  Not happy about this at all.  Hate to see this happen to this team.

Braves win over the Mets 2-0.  A victory in Atlanta tonight after all!

Celebrate Good Times..Come on!!

“There’s a party in the house tonight, everybody’s gonna have a good time”!!!  Thank you LMFAO!!

Actually, it is my birthday!!  Just wanted to share some thoughts with everyone about celebrating another year of life and being our own unique individual selves!!  Hopefully our best selves (oops. Oprah moment?)

It is so important that we are allowed to be who we are as individuals, loved and celebrated for it and embrace our gifts and talents and share them.  Also, important that we are genuine and authentic about our individuality and surround ourselves with others who also celebrate who we are and also celebrate their own unique individuality with genuine joy!

OK, I’m done.  We will talk golf and college football in a bit…

Thanks and Happy Day to everyone!

USA, USA!!

Great afternoon in Chicago for the US Ryder Cup team.  USA now leads 5-3 after completion of four-ball play this evening.  The star pairing for the US was Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson.  They just blew away Laurie and Hanson for Europe.  The only USA pairing to not win was Stricker and Woods, who went 0 for 2 today??  Tiger really tried to pull them into at least a tie with birdies on the 16th and the 17th but could not deliver on a mid range birdie attempt at 18.  The European star had to be Colsearts, playing with Westwood against Woods and Stricker.  He was unbelievable in his first Ryder Cup appearance.  All in all, a great start for Team USA which has not won the event since 2008.  Again, get ‘er done USA!!

Full sports day tomorrow with Ryder Cup action continuing and full slate of College Football.  Ryder Cup will conclude on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant was a guest on Ellen DeGeneres today.  Nice to see Kobe attempting to make a difference and give back to LA with his work with the homeless in Southern California.  Being a homer, I do root for the Hawks.  That being said, I have throughout my lifetime been a Celtic fan (Bill Russell days), and Philadelphia 76ers fan (when Moses came to take them to the promised land and get a ring for Dr. J), and always mesmerized by LA Lakers.  From the days when Pat Riley brought “Showtime” to the Forum (before the Staples Center days), and the crowd would chant “I Love LA”, I was hooked.

Really nice tribute for Chipper Jones tonight at Turner Field.  This was the last regular season home series for Chipper as a Brave.  The future Hall of Famer will retire after twenty years as a Brave.  Over 51,000 fans were there to show their appreciation.  On sign summed it up:  Chipper Loyalty = Braves Royalty!  Thank you Chipper.

That is all for now…

TGIF College Football and Grey’s Anatomy

What is up with Grey’s Anatomy?  I do not even recognize that show.  People died, people are still dying (the good looking Mark played by Eric Dane died last night).   There are so many new faces, Christina is no longer in Seattle, and the dynamics are all over the place.  Did recognize one of the new residents as the former football standout Smash Williams on the superb Friday Night Lights.  “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!!”

Speaking of football, tomorrow is College Football Day in America. 1 Bama at Tennessee,  5 UGA vs. Tennessee,  4 FSU at South Florida, 17 Clemson (without Sammy Watkins) at Boston College, 10 Texas vs. 22 Oklahoma State,  6 South Carolina vs. Kentucky, 24 Baylor vs. 7 West Virginia and the showcase game of the day, 14 Ohio State vs. 18 Michigan State.  No real upsets in site.  Tennessee is not ready for prime time.  Some see  South Florida as a trap game for FSU, I expect FSU to prevail with ease.  Speaking of West Virginia, the school has issued a video urging its students to stop the “tradition” of burning couches!!  Thank heavens for small miracles!

GT will attempt to recover from the travesty that was the Miami games last Saturday and pound on Middle Tennessee State.  GO JACKETS!

TGIF and Ryder Cup update

After morning match play, the US and Europe have found themselves tied 2-2 for the first time since 1997.  Woods and Stricker looked the most shaky of the US pairings going down to Rose and Poulter, but they will be back out this afternoon together for four-ball play.  Michelson and Bradley were fantastic!  So were McDowell and Mcilroy for Europe.  Dufner and Zach Johnson took the other win for team USA.

Four-ball pairings for this afternoon are as follows: Watson and Simpson vs. Laurie and Hanson; Michelson and Bradley vs. Mcilroy and McDowell (should be a great one); Johnson and Kuchar vs. Rose and Kaymer; and finally, Woods and Stricker vs. Westwood and Cosearts.  Here’s to hoping for a better performance this afternoon from Woods and Stricker…GO USA!

A lot of sports, pop culture and TGIF

Baltimore takes care of Cleveland 23-16 on Thursday night football.  Browns had chance to scores as time ran out.  Must say, very impressed with Browns’ quarterback Brandon Weeden out of Oklahoma State.

Stanford leading Washington 13-10 in 4th quarter.  Is this the same Stanford that handled USC???  Is Stanford (ranked number 8) having an off night or is Washington better than expected?

Update on Thursday’s Ellen DeGeneres show: Dwight Howard, now a LA Laker was also on the show.  He is very funny, actually came out of one of the private Christian schools in Atlanta to play in the NBA.  No college time for him, thus the nickname ‘Man-Child” (along with Superman after wearing the cape in the Slam Dunk contest!!)  He seems very excited to be playing with Kobe in LA in pursuit of a ring (Kobe will be on Ellen today).  Even when Howard played for Orlando, he spent the off season living out in LA (smart guy!)  He sure seems to be a happy camper.

Also, Jennifer Garner dropped another funny morsel of TMI when she made a comment when asked about having more children.  She said she did not plan to but alluded to anything being possible because of hubby Ben Affleck being, shall we say, extremely virile!!

Washington just scored to go ahead of Stanford with under four minutes in 4th quarter.  Can Stanford get it done?  The answer is no!  Upset in Pac – 12.  This game surprised me.  Pac-12 is going to be very competitive this year.

Well, TGIF!  Tomorrow is Saturday and that means College Football all day and night!

Also, Ryder Cup is underway.  Tiger paired  with Steve Stricker and Rory playing with McDowell for  Europe (the two boys from Northern Ireland).  More TGIF to follow with Ryder Cup action and College Football Saturday preview!

The Replacements are gone…!

Breaking news, the replacements referees are out.  The NFL has reached an agreement with the NFL referees and their union and they will be back immediately.  They will be back in action for all of the games this weekend as well as tonight’s Thursday night Football game.  Good news for sure.

Opening Ceremonies for the Ryder Cup are at 5:00pm today, action tees off tomorrow am.  Get ‘er done USA!!

Thursday Night Football offers up Baltimore hosting the Browns.  College Football features a Pac 12 match-up, Stanford at Washington, a little taste of West Coast college football!

Pop Culture:  Happy 40th birthday to Gwyneth Paltrow.  Love her and love her husband (Chris Martin, Coldplay!!)  Interesting question: Were Demi and Ashton ever legally married?  She still has not filed for divorce (in spite of all the humiliation??) and he seems to be happily involved with Mila Kunis.  Some speculate as to whether the Kabbalah wedding was merely symbolic and not a legal marriage??

Apparently Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina was involved in a pretty serious car crash last night in Atlanta.  She was with her “adopted” brother who is also rumored to be her boyfriend.  Reports indicate they had been arguing at the time of the crash and police had been called to their shared apartment earlier to investigate “noise complaints”.  (Oh, my, “noise complaints”!  How familiar I am with those, check out my book Surviving “Paradise”!)   That behavior has an unfortunate and unhealthy familiar ring to it!

Update from Ryder Cup:  Apparently Tiger Woods hit a wayward shot while practicing on the 18th hole and knocked a spectator out cold.   He apologized several times and did the signed glove thing.

More celebrity news: Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth had a baby boy today in LA.  They named him Tennessee James (she is from Tennessee).  Jen Garner did a bit of over sharing on the Ellen show today that was actually quite funny.  When asked how having a baby boy was different from the experience she had with her two girls, she said that they didn’t pee in her eye!  OK!

Looking forward tonight to Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy and Up All Night season openers.  Also, Two and a Half Men.  Still think the original Two and a Half Men was best, with Charlie Harper, aka Charlie Sheen.  That show and Mike and Molly are two shows that can make me burst out laughing non stop.  Laughter is a good thing!  It brings joy!

Make a Decision, Stop or Go, Sam or Jake

Well I could not help myself, I had to watch some of the replay of the GT overtime loss to Miami (Ugly!)  Anyhow, back to the Orin Smith botched kickoff return that ended up being a safety for Miami.  Turns out he did not quite put that knee down as he could not MAKE A DECISION about whether to stop (touch back) or go.  His hand touching down when he fell forward had nothing to do with the call.  It was whether the ball crossed the plane of the goal line or not, which actually it did not appear to do but there was not indisputable evidence to overturn the call of safety on the field.  Had he put his knee down while possessing the ball, he could have done a face plant forward and it would not have mattered.  Still, it comes down to stop or go, MAKE A DECISION!

Speaking of making a decision, how many times are we going to see the replay of “The Inaccurate Reception”, aka “Senseless in Seattle”?  It may never stop????  There again, replacement referees could not make a decision, at least not the same one together, one signals touch back, the other signals TD.  You know the rest….and on it will continue.

Last night on the season premier of Private Practice, Addison makes a decision, she chooses Jake (or at least it appears she does for now?).  Jake or Sam, ie. Benjamin Bratt or Taye Diggs, gee to be so lucky, what a decision to have to make, uh???  I would have chosen Sam.  That would be my Decision, but that is just me.  Addison is of course played by Kate Walsh, the lovely redhead in the Cadillac commercial, “When you turn your car on, does it return the favor?”  (There is a cute reference to this in my book Surviving Paradise, final chapter!)

More to follow later probably (come on man, make a decision!)

Great to see a cold one being poured over the head of Chipper Jones after the Braves won last night over Miami and clinched a playoff spot!!  GO BRAVES!

Rumor has it the NFL and the real referees are close to an agreement.  Cannot happen soon enough after last weekend’s ridiculousness!

Saw both episodes of New Girl last night starring Zoey Deschanel.  Not sure if I loved it or not.  I love her, especially the description of  her as “adorkable”.  Happen to catch her on the Ellen DeGeneres show and for the first time,  it seemed like there was some sort of disconnect between Ellen and her guest.  Don’t know why, but it just seemed a bit uncomfortable.  Oh well, Zoey is adorable.

Shout out to Chris Rains, owner of jaxcbc (Jacksonville Custom Built Computers), soon to be State of the Art Custom Built Computers for the architectural design and genius of this blog.  Anyone needing a state of the art computer, expert web design and/or blog, find him!

Looking forward to the Ryder Cup this weekend.  GO USA!

Kerry Walsh Jennings pregnant at Olympics

Kerry Walsh Jennings just announced she was eleven weeks pregnant!!  Turns out, she was five weeks pregnant when she and Misty May-Treanor won Olympic gold in London!!

More bad news for the Atlanta Falcons, John Abraham arrested attempting to enter a taped off area where a women was thinking of jumping?  I don’t know what to say??

More fallout from the ending of the Green Bay – Seattle game last night.  Mike and Mike on ESPN took a poll of names for the pass that was called a TD but was in fact an interception and miscalled by replacement referees.  Some of my favorites are “The Fail Mary”, “The Inaccurate Reception” and my top choice, “Senseless in Seattle”.

Embarrassing for GT…On SportsNation, the Orin Smith miscue on the kickoff which resulted in a safety for Miami was deemed the worst calamity in college football this weekend.  BOO!

Time to get upbeat and move on to Pop Culture.  Sarah Michelle Geller and Freddie Prinze, Jr. welcome a baby boy.  LAMFAO breaking up, NOT, just taking a break.  And finally on Castle, Beckett and Castle gave us what we have all been waiting for and  hook up.  YES!!!!
